Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about how AppTester.co works: for builders, testers, and everyone in between.

For Builders & Developers

What types of apps can I submit for testing?

We accept APK (Android), AAB (Android App Bundle), and IPA (iOS) files. This includes apps built with Swift, Kotlin, React Native, Flutter, Xamarin, Unity, Cordova, or any other framework. Maximum file size is 500 MB.

What is the difference between the free Health Check and Human Testing?

The Health Check is an automated static analysis tool: it reads your app file and runs rule-based checks for permissions, metadata, privacy compliance, signing, and build mode. It returns results instantly with no human involvement. Human Testing puts your app in the hands of real people on real physical devices. Humans catch UX friction, interaction bugs, device-specific crashes, confusing onboarding flows, and issues that automated tools cannot detect.

How long does human testing take?

Standard (Starter plan): 48 hours. Priority (Pro plan): 24 hours. Expedited (Team plan): 12 hours.

Can I test an app that is not yet on the App Store or Google Play?

Yes. Our testers install your APK directly on Android devices (sideloading). For iOS, you can provide your build via TestFlight or an ad-hoc provisioning profile. You do not need to be listed on any store.

What does the bug report include?

Every report includes: a severity summary (Critical / High / Medium / Low), step-by-step reproduction steps for each issue, device model and OS version, screenshots or screen recordings, a store readiness verdict, and specific notes from the tester on any UX concerns.

How is the app Health Score calculated?

The Health Score is a 0–100 number. We run 9 automated checks covering permissions, privacy policy presence, iOS privacy manifest, binary signing, build mode, metadata quality, SDK tracking detection, and network security. Each check returns pass, warn, or fail. The score is calculated from the proportion of checks passed, weighted by severity.

Can I request a re-test after fixing bugs?

Yes. After addressing findings from your original test, you can upload the updated build and request a re-test. Re-tests are available at a reduced rate on Pro and Team plans.

Is the Health Check really free?

Yes. The App Health Check is completely free, requires no account, and has no usage limits. Upload your file and get your results instantly.

What file formats do you accept?

APK, AAB, IPA, APPX, and ZIP. For the Health Check, we analyse APK, AAB, and IPA files directly. APPX (Windows) is accepted for human testing only.

Do you offer team or bulk testing plans?

Yes. The Team plan at $99 supports 10 concurrent testers, 12-hour turnaround, a shared team dashboard for multiple team members, and priority support. Contact us if you need custom volume pricing.

For App Testers

How much can I earn testing apps?

Pay ranges from $5 for a 15-minute quick test to $35 for a 60+ minute deep test or accessibility review. Most active testers earn $150–$500 per month. Top earners with multiple devices and fast turnaround earn more.

Do I need testing experience or coding knowledge?

No. We need people who use apps every day and can clearly describe what they experience. If you can reproduce a bug, write clear steps, and take a screenshot, you have all the skills required.

What device do I need to become a tester?

You need at least one physical smartphone: Android 4.4+ or iPhone with iOS 14+. Older devices and low-end handsets are in high demand because many developers test only on flagship devices. Tablets are also accepted.

How and when do I get paid?

Payouts are processed within 7 days of your report being reviewed and accepted. We pay via PayPal or bank transfer. There is no minimum balance required to withdraw.

What if the app I'm testing has no bugs?

A clean report is a completely valid result and is still paid. Developers value knowing their app works well. You are paid for your time and the quality of your report, not per bug found.

How many tests can I do per month?

There is no limit. The number of tests available to you depends on your devices, location, and performance rating. Active testers with high-quality reports are prioritised for new tests.

Can I test apps if English is not my first language?

Most tests require English-language reporting. Some tests specifically need testers in non-English speaking regions to test localisation. These are labelled clearly in your dashboard.

How long does the application process take?

The application form takes about 5 minutes. We review applications within 48 hours. Once accepted, device verification takes another 15 minutes and you can claim your first test the same day.

About AppTester.co

What is AppTester.co?

AppTester.co is a mobile app testing platform. Developers upload their apps for testing by real human testers on real devices, and receive structured bug reports within 48 hours. We also offer a free automated App Health Check and a free Rejection Database.

Where are your testers located?

Our tester community is global: we have testers across North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America. When you submit an app, tests are distributed based on device compatibility, tester performance, and availability.

How do you vet your testers?

Every tester goes through an application review, a device verification check, and a sample test before being admitted. Tester quality is monitored continuously: low-quality reports result in suspension.

Is my app and its code kept confidential?

Yes. Testers sign a confidentiality agreement before accessing any app. Your app is distributed only to the testers assigned to your specific test. Testers are prohibited from sharing, distributing, or discussing the apps they test.

Do you support Windows or macOS apps?

We accept APPX files for Windows app testing. macOS app testing is available on request for Team plan customers. Contact us for details.
